Welcome to House of De Clifford

Working closely with other organisations, we have built a reputation for strong ethics, in depth knowledge of our trade and reliable service. This has led to De Clifford’s gaining the confidence of many businesses who would not have otherwise used real fur in the past for their projects. Heritage trusts, stage and the film industry are all valued customers.

Here you will find a range of the products that we can supply. As fur traders we cover a multitude of historical periods throughout Re–enactment.

We strive towards providing quality and authenticity

To help us to achieve this all our products shown here are accompanied with an insight into where each item would have come from, what period it covers, what status is attached to the use, approximate sizes and some possible uses for the more unusual items.

If you don't see what you require please contact us so that we can discuss how we can best meet your needs.

We have recently completed a prestigious project with English Heritage at Dover Castle, where we supplied the fur for Henry II's bed, the Guest bed and his Mantle. The fur supplied was Baltic red and grey squirrel which was known as ‘vair’ in medieval times.

This was a highly prized fur and was imported as ready tanned skins from Novgorod in Russia in the 12th Century. Today the furs have been sourced similarly from the Baltic region. Pictures and more information can be viewed by following these links.
