“When buying fur, ensure you know what you are buying. If the animal is on
the CITES list your seller must have the relevent paperwork that goes
with the item. If not, the item will be illegal to own.”
The ermine
Serious luxury for those that could afford it. Used as a trim for those elegant
items of clothing or maybe a full lining if you happen to be a wealthy noble person
with the right connections! The ermine has always been a fur of royalty right from
the middle ages.
A large specimen can reach a whopping 15" nose to tail! (you need a lot of them)
and due to the nature of the stoat, they only turn white in very cold winters so
availability has always been difficult. Hence the status and price.

The fitch
Fitch became a desirable fur in the mid to late middle ages due to its lovely
range of colour and keen pricing. Reletivly easily available and a good size of
pelt ment that fitch secured a place with furriers as a quick and economical fur to
trade in.
Due to its similarity to much more expensive furs like mink and sable it remained in
favour for many years.
