“When buying fur, ensure you know what you are buying. If the animal is on
the CITES list your seller must have the relevent paperwork that goes
with the item. If not, the item will be illegal to own.”
Beaver Pelts
All of our beaver pelts come from Canada where they are trapped by
professionals due to a real problem of over population. The pelts are
then tanned the traditional way.
They are mounted on a hoop and stretched so when finished they come to us in a
round/oval shape. They can be quite large and to get them around 30" long by
30" wide is certainly not uncommon.
Very nice thick under fur/wool with longer guard hairs make the beaver pelt
one of the most sought after pelts available. Traditionly they would have been
used for felt making as part of the hat making process as far back as the 11thC.
Top hats are still made from beaver felt today.
